Updated: March 14, 2014 8:40AM

A Merrillville man is admitting he tried to traffick at least 5 kilograms of cocaine in August.

Jose Arriaga, 44, faces up to 20 years in prison in exchange for pleading guilty to one count of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.

Arriaga also agrees to forfeit $24,000 in cash to the government.

Court records say that Arriaga committed his crime on Aug. 28 and that the cocaine was anywhere from 5 to 15 kilograms. He was charged in October and released on a $20,000 bond. A change of plea hearing had not been set as of Wednesday afternoon.
