Gary man gets six-year prison term for burglary at auto parts store

Updated: April 1, 2014 6:04AM

A Gary man was sentenced Monday to six years in prison for burglary.

Elijah Joseph Raphael Joshua Jr., 23, of the 2000 block of Maryland Street, admitted he broke into Broadway Auto Parts, 1989 Broadway in Gary and removed money bags containing cash.

The burglary occurred March 9.

The plea agreement accepted by Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Ross Boswell outlined the six-year prison term, which will be served after Joshua completes his sentence handed down in 2011 for burglary.

In that case, he was sentenced in March 2011 to Lake County Community Corrections for four years, but in September 2011 a petition to expel him from the program was filed.

Prosecutors agreed not to file the habitual offender sentencing enhancement.
