Probation for woman who started fire in Hobart jail cell

Updated: April 1, 2014 10:21AM

A Hobart woman was placed on probation for 18 months on Thursday for criminal recklessness.

Sherry Rene Lane, 49, must perform 60 hours of community service while on probation. If she complies with the terms of her probation, she can ask Lake Superior Court Judge Salvador Vasquez to reduce her felony conviction to a misdemeanor.

Lane had been charged with arson for lighting toilet paper and underwear on fire while she was locked up June 18 at Hobart City Jail on a public intoxication charge.

The arson charge was dismissed.
