CROWN POINT — Three new parking spaces will be added to the downtown square to take advantage of some vacant space in front of what used to be Perry Court.
The Board of Works and Public Safety last week approved turning the space along Main Street created when Perry Court was developed and vacated as a roadway into additional parking.
“It will help with needed spaces on that side of the square,” Mayor David Uran said.
The three spots will be diagonal parking slots. One of the three spaces will be designated for 15-minute loading and unloading only.
Plans call for creating some type of decorative barrier to prevent vehicles from creeping too far forward into the Perry Court area and to maintain the integrity of the walkway. A sign will be erected designating which of the three spots is for loading.
In other news affecting the square, officials also approved licenses for two hot dog vendors. Mike Adams, who had the spot on the northeast corner last year, was granted the southeast corner this year. Uran said Adams is the vendor with the most seniority after a second vendor retired last year. Adams also was given a vendor’s license to bring back the hot dog stand in the parking lot at the southeast corner of Joliet and East streets.
New vendor Rhonda Bloch, who bought the retiring vendor’s truck and recipes, was approved to take over Adams’ old spot on the northeast corner of the square.
