King celebration: The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration continues Monday, Jan. 23, through Friday, Jan. 27, at Purdue University Calumet, 2200 169th St. The observance includes a peace exhibit, race relations panel discussion, comments of participants who participated in the 1960s sit-in movement and the university’s annual convocation. Cookin’ with kids: Lil’ Chefs cooking class for kids will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 26 through Feb. 23, at the Crown Point Civic Center, 101 S. East St. Cost is $45 for residents and $60 for nonresidents. The class covers safety, table-setting, etiquette and cooking fun. Registration deadline is Monday, Jan. 23. School open house: St. Edward School’s annual open house pancake breakfast and book fair is slated for Sunday, Jan. 29, at the school, 210 S.
