The Munster High School speech team finished fourth in last month’s George Armstrong-Heart of Illinois Invitational competition at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.

Munster had 25 finalists in the competition, with 21 of them in the novice division, making them the most successful group of beginners in the school’s more than two decades of participation in the invitational.

Sixteen schools participated this year.

The novice team was led by sophomore Zaria Suggs, who advanced in three events. Suggs was tournament champion in poetry interpretation and dramatic interpretation and was fourth in prose.

Sophomore Gina Rice won oratorical declamation, and freshman Rohan Chaterjee won humorous interpretation.

Chaterjee (freshman), Colleen Kifer (sophomore), and Monica Lee (senior) placed in two events as well.

At the varsity level, sophomores Niko Ingoglia and Haley Moles placed third in duo interpretation.

Sophomores Josh Shalen and Nick Siano were third in duet acting. Junior Emma Hong was second in extemporaneous speaking.

Coaches Jordan Mayer and Tanya Galloway supervised the trip.
