Dean’s list: Jordan Kaczmar of Crown Point was recently named to the North Central College Dean’s List for the fall term.
Admission information sessions: The University of St. Francis Crown Point is hosting three question-and-answer sessions for those seeking entry to the associate of science in nursing or the licensed-practical-nurse-to-associate-of-science in nursing programs. The informal sessions run from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, and Monday, March 5, at 12800 Mississippi Parkway, Pavilion U. An R.S.V.P. is suggested but not required. Call 488-8888.

Celebrate Chinese New Year: Purdue University Calumet celebrates the 2012 Chinese New Year, Saturday, Feb. 4, in the Student Union and Library Alumni Hall, 2200 169th St. Festivities begin at 1:30 p.m. with a musical performance, games, karaoke and an authentic Chinese meal. Advance tickets are $7 for students, $10 for nonstudents, $5 for ages 5 to 12. Children under age 5 admitted free. Remaining tickets will be available for $15. Call 989-2765.

Scholarship offered: The Lake County Extension Homemakers Association is accepting applications for the annual Lucile Smith Memorial Scholarship open to Lake County residents ages 21 and older. Applications must be received by March 1. For an application or more information, call 755-3242.

Hart is IUN technology intern: Bepko student intern Stephanie Hart, a junior, is working with director of telecom networking Steven Fejdasz on a major telephone upgrade at Indiana University Northwest. Hart is a graduate of Merrillville High School, majoring in computer information systems and minoring in business administration.
GED testing: Merrillville Adult Education is offering general equivalency diploma testing from 4:45 to 9 p.m. Feb. 6, 7, 27 and 28, at Merrillville High School, 276 E. 68th Place. The fee is $70 for the complete test or $14 per subtest, payable by cash only. Registration is required from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at the Merrillville Adult Education Office, 6701 Delaware St. Call 650-5310.

Bozovic is IUN technology intern: Senior Tatiana Bozovic is the newest face working in the Indiana University Northwest Web Services Department as a Bepko student intern. Bozovic is a Munster High School graduate, majoring in computer information systems with a minor in business administration.
College-prep class offered: A free college-preparation course has been scheduled for adult students at Indiana Tech, 9245 Calumet Ave. Math is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 20, 27, March 5 and 12. The course includes free textbooks and materials. To register, call 836-1910, Ext. 4805.
NORTHWEST INDIANA
Cash for College: The Twenty-First Century Scholars program will host a seminar on preparing and planning for college at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, in room 102 of Raintree Hall at Indiana University Northwest, 3400 Broadway, Gary. The event is open to seventh- through 12th-grade students and their families. The state’s Twenty-First Century Scholars program ensures students who join in seventh- or eighth-grade and adhere to all the programs requirements that they will be able to afford four years of college.
