Lew Wallace Cadet Command announces Soldier’s Award recipients

Sandi Cogan (center), director of community affairs and public relations for Smith, Bizzell and Warner Funeral Home, recently received the Soldier’s Award for Community Partnership from the Lew Wallace STEM Academy JROTC Cadet Command for service to the cadets. Smith, Bizzell and Warner sponsored the cadets’ recent trip to Washington, D.C., which included visits to the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery and the White House. Cogan also arranged for the cadets to post colors at home games for the Gary Splash basketball team and decorate Christmas trees at the Jingle Bells luncheon for Veterans Life Changing Ministries. As a part of their citizenship curriculum, the cadets also serve as Honor Guards for funeral visitations of veterans. Colonel Antonio Daggett is the Senior Army Instructor and leader of the Cadet Command at Lew Wallace. The Soldier’s Award was also presented to St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and Lake Station Baptist Church. | Photo provided
