Age: 18
Birthday: July 7
Hometown: Portage
School: Portage High School, class of 2012
At home: Dad, Dan Rex; younger sisters Julia and Janelle; and two cats, Booboo and Precious
What’s your favorite school subject? “French. I’ve taken French for three years and I like learning a different language.”
Who are your all-time favorite teachers? “My fourth-grade teacher Mrs. Deavers. I liked sharing my stories with her and talking to her, and my humanities teacher Mrs. Hobart. I’ve enjoyed the books we’ve read and the movies we’ve watched in her class. She also shared interesting stories with us.”
Who is your role model? “My dad. He’s a hard worker and we share a lot of the same interests. He used to work at a company that made train parts, and that’s why I’d like to work for the railroad, too.”
What extra-curricular activities have you participated in? “I’m in the French Club, and I was in Campus Life last year. I’m manager of the basketball team and film the games for them.”
What volunteering have you done? “I run the PowerPoint for the second service at my church.”
What are your plans for the future? “I’d like to go to Purdue University and eventually work for the railroad.”
What’s the best part of being a teenager? “At our age, we have less restrictions than when we were kids, but not all the adult responsibilities yet, like paying bills.”
What’s the worst part of being
a teenager? “Probably being
closer to becoming an adult and having all the worries and responsibilities.”
What’s something you’d like adults to know about teens? “We don’t understand all there is to being an adult yet. Be more free with good advice to help us out but don’t be so strict about it.”
What’s been the most memorable event of your life so far? “In 2007, I went to Rock City on the border between Tennessee and Georgia with my dad and grandmother and two sisters. It was really beautiful there. We hiked through all the passages.”
