U.S. News and World Report recently ranked Homewood-Flossmoor High School at No. 33 in Illinois on its list of the Nation’s Best High Schools.
Nationally, the high school was ranked No. 755 out of 22,000 public high schools.
“Our board of education continues to be committed to the success of all students,” said Superintendent Von Mansfield. “I am extremely proud of our administrators and most proud of our teachers, who have helped our students and high school receive such an outstanding honor.”
According to its website, in order to determine the rankings, the news magazine first analyzed at the state level in terms of how well students in each school performed on state assessments, taking into account the test scores of disadvantaged students.
High schools that made it through this analysis were then eligible to be ranked nationally in terms of college readiness. This was determined by analyzing student success in advanced placement or international baccalaureate programs.
Homewood-Flossmoor High school offers 23 Advanced Placement classes and is starting an international baccalaureate program next year.
