Crete resident reunites with international family

Updated: August 28, 2012 3:14PM

Sarah Powers, a resident of St. James Manor and Villas in Crete, was the guest of honor recently during an international family reunion at Caldwell Woods in Chicago.

Powers, who at 90 years old is the matriarch of her family, said she always has had a place in her heart for family.

“Family is the essence of joy,” she said. “We must cherish one another and never forget to stay in touch.”

Kathy Stein, director of resident activities, accompanied Powers to the event.

“Sarah was ready to go, wearing her custom family reunion shirt,” Stein said. “Brimming from ear to ear, she had a smile on her face that could light up the world as we drove to the reunion.”

Susan Williams, Powers’ daughter, arranged for her mother to attend the reunion to reminisce with relatives from Switzerland, Texas, California, Illinois, Hawaii and Michigan.

More than 100 people attended the event.
