SCHERERVILLE — Campagna Academy children will host a benefit for the Humane Society Calumet Area from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in the campus gymnasium.

Puppies, kittens, dogs and cats rescued by the Munster-based HSCA will be up for adoption.

Campagna boys and girls also will collect donations and conduct a silent auction from noon to 1 p.m.

The auction will feature eight chairs, each custom decorated and designed with artwork created by the youngsters just for this event.

Homemade dog treats also will be sold.

“Our boys and girls wanted to do something as a way of expressing themselves, as well as having a sense they are giving back to the community that gathers in many ways in support of them,” said Kathleen Hartman-McCarthy, the agency’s director of clinical operations. “For our youth, it’s something they really wanted to do, not only for the community, but for themselves as a team project.”

There is no charge to attend Campagna Kids Raising Funds 4-K9s and Kittens. The agency is at 7403 Cline Ave., and the campus gym is at the south entrance behind the administration building.

A concession stand also will be open for refreshments.

Campagna Academy is a not-for-profit social services agency serving at-risk boys and girls through on-campus residential care, psychiatric residential treatment care, home- and community-based services, educational programming targeted specific needs, intensive substance abuse treatment, and therapeutic foster care.
