Marian Catholic High School band students stand next to a sign announcing the school’s 31st annual Oktoberfest Arts and Crafts Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 at the school, 700 S. Ashland Ave., Chicago Heights. The event will feature crafts and homemade baked goods for sale, prize drawings, homemade German food, music from Marian band ensembles and more. Proceeds will help fund the band’s travel, including to the Bands of America Regionals, the Grand Nationals in Indianapolis, and the 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. “One of the really special things about Oktoberfest is the community spirit it creates,” said Lisa Collins, chair of the event the past five years. “In addition, we have people who have visited or participated in the event for 15 to 20 years. It’s a family event that has generations returning, along with new people coming every year.” The cost is $1 for general admission and free for seniors and children ages 11 and younger.
