The grand opening of the new Crown Point Community Library is planned from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 122 N. Main St. The ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at 2 p.m. The event includes refreshments, a Ronald McDonald Magic show, face painting, balloon animals caricature artist and more.
VALPARAISO
The Valparaiso Swim Club sponsors a gravy drive for 500 Turkeys, a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving 500 local families a Thanksgiving meal they can prepare at home. The goal is to collect 1,000 cans, jars or packs of turkey gravy. A drop box is manned from 7 to 9 p.m. until Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Valparaiso High School pool, 2727 N. Stepping for the needy: The Chakula Ministry of Trinity United Church of Christ presents “A Seventies Style Stepping for the Needy” event from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday, Nov. 9, at the Calumet Township Multi-Purpose Center, 1900 W. 41st Ave. Tickets are $15.
