Go Red Zumbathon: The city of Gary will sponsor a Zumbathon on Friday, Nov. 16, at Marquette Park Pavilion, 1 N. Grand Blvd. Doors open at 6 p.m. and Zumba starts at 7. The cost is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. The cost for Gary employees is $10. Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association. Call 881-1314 for more information.
Teach-A-Rama: The national sorority of Phi Delta Kappa is celebrating education at the annual Teach-A-Rama on Saturday, Nov. 17, at Avalon Manor Banquet Center, 3550 E. U.S. 30. An education-health fair will run from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by an awards luncheon at 11:45. The cost is $20. The Rev. Dwight Gardner is the speaker. Historical Society meets: The Kankakee Valley Historical Society’s general meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Kouts Branch of the Porter County Public Library, 101 E. Daumer Road. The program will be presented by Richard Maryonovich and will focus on prehistoric flint knapping techniques. It will include an introduction to knapping, a brief history and the process.
