Basketball season tipoff: The Gary Community School Corp. Athletic Department’s annual basketball season tipoff is Saturday, Nov. 17, at the West Side Leadership Academy, 900 W. Gerry St. Elementary, middle and high school teams will compete at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5. Tickets are $6 at the door. Call District Athletic Director Earl Smith at 881-5442 for more information.

219 Steppers event: The 219 Steppers seventh year anniversary Sagittarius-Capricorn affair, “Steppin’ in Jeans & Bling,” starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Genesis Convention Center, 5th Avenue and Broadway.
