Cookie walk: The annual cookie walk is being held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 8, at the First Presbyterian Church of Portage, 6225 Lute Road. Homemade cookies are $7 per pound. Candy, nut rolls and pumpkin rolls are also available.
MICHIGAN CITY
Holiday collections: Donations of mittens, gloves, hats and scarves are being accepted to decorate the holiday tree at the Michigan City Public Library, 100 E. 4th St. Items benefit the Salvation Army. Donations of nonperishable food items for the food pantry also are being accepted through Wednesday, Jan. 2.
CHESTERTON
Stringing class: A beginning stringing class is being taught from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Chesterton Art Center, 115 S. 4th St. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Instructor is Mara Wible, who is teaching a series of jewelry classes throughout the month. To register, call 926-4711.

Cookie sale: A cookie walk is planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Wheeler United Methodist Church, 307 North St. Cookies are $5 per pound. Containers provided. Call 759-1108.
