The “Dancing with the Local Stars” contest to benefit the Lake Area United Way is being held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Star Plaza Theatre, 800 E. 81st Ave. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children and youth up to age 17. Checks, cash or credit cards are accepted. Call 923-2302, Ext. 302, or mail checks (payable to Lake Area United Way) to: Lake Area United Way, 221 W. Ridge Road, Griffith, IN 46319. Competitors include Hobart Mayor Brian Snedecor and Valparaiso High School Principal Reid Amones. The fundraiser is part of the Indiana Challenge ballroom competition Feb. 21 to 24.

The Highland Theatre Company at Highland High School is performing “James and the Giant Peach” at 7 nightly Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23, in Monbeck Auditorium at the school, 9135 Erie St. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors at the door.
