Cancer Fears the Dancer: If you haven’t had the chance to take one of Kathy Allen’s dance classes, now is the time!

Kathy’s classes are always entertaining while providing a good workout. Join the fun and help raise money for cancer at the same time.

From 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the police/court/community complex, 705 E. 4th St., enjoy the dances of Zumba and Zumba Gold, yoga, line dancing, belly dancing and hip-hop.

Raffle & door prizes to be given away. Bring a towel or mat. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

For more information, contact Kathy at 942-3432.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser: Kyle Gospodarek attended a St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event last year and really felt a connection to the cause.

Kyle’s sister-in-law, Stacey Welch Gospodarek, lost her battle after a long fight with childhood cancer in 2011. To honor Stacey and other children fighting cancer, Kyle has teamed up with friends, his parents Joe and Donna, and the Hobart Fire Department to sponsor a St. Baldrick’s Foundation event at Hobart Fire House #1.

Joe Gospodarek is Hobart’s fire inspector.

The event will be held at noon Saturday, June 22, at Hobart Fire Station #1, 400 E. 10th St. In addition to the traditional head-shaving, this will be a family event with kids’ activities, food and entertainment.

You can sign up to volunteer at the event, set up a fundraising page, make a donation on behalf of a participant (or to the event as a whole) or simply help us by spreading the word.

For more information, visit the event page www.stbaldricks.org/events/HobartVsCancer or call Kyle 512-4195.

Plant a tree in the parks: Celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, April 26, and support the Hobart Parks.

Five to six parks are in need of new trees and through a tree-buying program with Remus Farms, 9380 E. Ridge Road, residents can honor their family, children or in memory of a loved one by purchasing a new tree.

Trees purchased at Remus Farms will be picked up by the Hobart Parks Department and planted in the designated park.

For more information about the tree sale, call the parks department at 942-2987.

Hobart Neighborhood Garage Sale: Applications to register a garage sale are available on the city website www.cityofhobart.org or in the Special Events office in Hobart City Hall.

Registration is $10, which includes garage sale listing, main items listing and one yard sign. Additional yard signs will be available for purchase.

For more information, call the Hobart Special Events Office at 942-4511.

To include your event information in this column, please email me at hobartspecialevents@gmail.com or leave me a message at 942-4511. I look forward to hearing from you!
