African American Music Appreciation Month: The I Too Sing America Organization of NWI will award three $500 scholarships to high school students who reside in Northwest Indiana and are eligible to receive a high school diploma or GED at the end of the 2013 academic year. Applications can be obtained along with other requirements from the scholarship chairman, Joyce Barnett, by calling 397-0986, or from Stacy Winfield, ITSA president, by calling 397-3734 after 4:30 p.m.

St. Mary open house: St. Mary Catholic Community School, 405 E. Joliet St., Crown Point, will host a kindergarten open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1. Those interested in learning more about the school are invited to tour the school, meet the teachers, and learn more about the St. Mary’s tradition. The school offers full-day kindergarten. It has openings for new kindergartners and students from preschool through eighth-grade.
