Finally! Nice weather has arrived in Northwest Indiana. It’s been so nice to get out of the house and enjoy some family bike rides again.
Spring is also the time events start rolling out in Hobart. Take some time out of your schedule and enjoy:
American Legion Auxiliary Post 54 Crazy Bunco: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 5. Bunco, prizes, refreshments and a 50/50 raffle will make this day-out with the ladies even more fun. Have a blast at the Crazy Bunco and support our veterans at the same time.
American Legion Post 54 is located at 208 S. Linda St. The phone number is 947-2054.
The cost is $10 per person. The public is invited!
New commander: District Legion Official Peter Van Woerden will install new Commander Earl McDowell and staff of the Hobart American Legion Post 54 at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7.
Commander McDowell will replace outgoing Commander Robert Hamady. I’ve enjoyed working with Commander Hamady on several events. He always greets me with a warm smile and gracious compliment.
He’s done a great job as commander. Now he can sit back, relax and enjoy the summer.
A post officer’s reception is planned after the 7 p.m. installation program. The Post 54 Ladies Auxiliary will be serving a sandwich menu with trimmings to Legion members and guests.
Hobart Jaycees Women’s Expo: The Hobart Jaycees will hosting their fourth annual Women’s Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Hobart Elk’s Lodge, 3580 W. 61st Ave.
The Expo features more than 50 vendors, crafters and businesses, free chair massages and blood pressure screenings and door prizes!
Admission is free, but please bring a nonperishable item for the Hobart Food Pantry and receive a bonus ticket for door prizes.
For more information, contact Jan Luken at 510-5418 or email@example.com.
Hobart Summer Market on the Lake: Opening day for the market will be Thursday, June 6. Hours are 3 to 8 p.m.
Enjoy an evening along the lakefront! Shop, savor the tasty treats and enjoy the island sounds of Kent Arnsbarger’s steel drum from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Some new features at the Summer Market this year include:
† The Maria Reiner Book Mobile selling gently used books
† Rhythm, Rhyme & Party Time children’s arts and craft tent from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Art teachers will feature a new art project or craft that children can take home that day.
† Golf cart shuttle to and from the rugby field parking lot into the market area. Parking inside Festival Park will be limited, with first priority to our handicapped visitors. Market volunteers will be available to bring you into the market area from the rugby field parking lot.
Orthodox Easter: Orthodox Christians follow the Julian calendar, so our “miracle of Easter” celebration will be held this Sunday, May 5.
Zoe and Theo have been anxiously awaiting the Easter Bunny’s arrival and we look forward to hosting dinner for our family and friends on this special day. Christos Anesti!
