High Ability Program: The Gary Community School Corporation High Ability Program is accepting applications from students interested in participating in the program during the upcoming school year. Applications are available at the High Ability Programs Office, Wirt-Emerson Visual and Performing Arts High Ability Academy, 210 N. Grand Blvd. Room 117; West Side Leadership Academy, 900 Gerry St., Room C141; and Banneker Achievement Center, 301 Parke St. Testing by appointment is under way at West Side. HOPE Scholarship: Northwest Indiana McDonald’s Operators and the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana have partnered to establish the HOPE Scholarship for local high school students. It is open to graduating high school seniors living in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton and Jasper counties. Twenty $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who have: achieved academic excellence (minimum 3.0 GPA); supported their community through volunteer activities; demonstrated financial need; plan to pursue a degree in business management, hospitality or agricultural studies. Applications for the HOPE Scholarship will be accepted through May 24. Students interested in the HOPE Scholarship can visit foodbanknwi.org to download the application and full instructions.
College Fair: The Portage Township YMCA, 3100 Willowcreek Rd., will host a college fair from 5 to 7 p.m. May 6. Representatives of Indiana Wesleyan University, Indiana University Northwest, Indiana Tech, Ivy Tech Community College, DeVry University, Trine University, Valparaiso University and Calumet College of St. Joseph are scheduled to attend.
