Enrollment Day: Purdue University North Central invites prospective students to Enrollment Day, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 22. Prospective students will have the opportunity to fill out an application, be admitted, take an assessment test and receive financial aid information. Official transcripts must be submitted in order to be evaluated for admission. Admitted students will meet with an academic adviser. Sign in at the north entrance of the Technology Building, near the lounge that is adjacent to Room 157. No registration is required. Scholarship winners: First Trust Credit Union awarded two $1,000 scholarships at its 53rd annual dinner meeting Saturday, April 20, in LaPorte. Laima Kaukaite, senior at Marquette Catholic High School in Michigan City, received the Del Lonzo Memorial Scholarship, established to honor a teacher at Rogers High School in Michigan City and long-time member of the credit union’s Board of Directors. Kaukaite, daughter of Stuart and Diana Johns, is planning to attend Loyola University Chicago as a pre-med major. Nicolette Bensinger, senior at Morgan Township High School in Valparaiso, received the Virginia Stevens Scholarship. Bensinger, daughter of Dale and Carol Bensinger, is the first to be awarded the scholarship, established to honor Virginia Stevens, the founding member of First Trust Credit Union. Bensinger is planning to attend Baker College in Muskegon, Mich., to become a veterinary technician.
Research grant for Gary native: New Mexico Space Grant Consortium awarded David Rockstraw, a chemical engineering professor at New Mexico State University, a $24,930 grant for research entitled “Bioinorganic Highly Efficient Flexible Thermoelectric for Producing Energetic Fabrics.” A highly efficient thermoelectric fabric could be one of the components of an astronaut’s space suit that could provide power to, for example, life support sensors. New Mexico Space Grant Consortium is a member of the federally funded National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program, which is administered by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
