National Merit scholarships: Several Northwest Indiana high school seniors have been awarded scholarships. Emma Hong and Peter Kraft of Munster High School, Elizabeth Benson of Chesterton High School, Kelsey Hopkins of Crown Point High School all have been awarded $2,500 National Merit scholarships and William Greenlaw of Munster High School has been awarded a $2,500 National Achievement Scholarship.
Relay For Life essay contest: The Relay For Life of Hobart is holding an essay and poetry contest for their June 14 event at Mundell Field. Essay winners will read their essay or poem at the event, be featured in promotional materials and receive a certificate. Students in elementary, middle and high school can find essay topics and an application online at www.relayforlife.org/hobartin or on the Facebook page facebook.com/rflhobartin. Northwest Indiana Symphony Youth Orchestra auditions: Spring auditions for the 2013-2014 season for all orchestra instruments will take place 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 and Wednesday, May 29 at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. The orchestra is open to string players entering the 8th grade and woodwind, brass, and percussion players entering the ninth grade, both through the age of 21.
