FAMILY EVENTS

“Secret Garden walk”: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7, Miller Beach community of Gary. The Miller Garden Club presents its 14th annual garden walk event beginning at Marquette Park Aquatorium, 6918 Oak Ave., Gary. Cost is $10, available at the Aquatorium on the days of the event. The garden walk features six unique and elaborate hidden gardens at five different sites along the dunes. Complimentary bus transportation and free parking. A bicycle tour will be led by club members at 10:30 a.m. on both days of the walk. Food vendors, garden-related products and art items will be available. “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”: 8 p.m. Fridays; 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturdays; 2:30 p.m. Sundays and select Thursday evenings and 2:30 Saturday performances, July 11 through Aug. 18, at the Theater at the Center, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, individual ticket prices range from $38-$42, call the box office at 836-3255 or Tickets.com at (800) 511-1552. Sweet Adelines perform: 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 16. Valparaiso Public Library, 103 Jefferson St., Valparaiso. Free event. The local chapter of Sweet Adelines International will perform their repertoire that includes special arrangements of today’s ballads, mainstream popular music, classic songs and popular show tunes.
