Police officers sought: The St. John Police Department is accepting applications for police officers. Information packets are available, and the cost is $20 per application and are available at the police department, 1033 W. 93rd. Only cash, money order or cashier check will be accepted. Return completed applications by 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, to the police department.

Picnic in the park and bazaar: Bea’s Classy Ladies United Chapter 6053 of the Red Hat Society and the Gentlemen of Distinction, are hosting their first annual picnic in the park and bazaar, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Tolleston Park, 1701 Ellsworth St. Rain or shine. Admission is free. Bring your own picnic basket, coolers, chairs or blankets. Browse and buy goodies from the Red Hatter’s Bazaar. Vendors are welcome for a small fee. Computer Basis I: Bits and Bytes continue from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Westchester Public Library with Computer Basis 1. The beginner’s entry-level class is free.
