“The Dream Continues: A program Remembering Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, 50 years later will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts, 540 S. Lake St. Admission is free. On display will be a dozen prints of photographs by Camilo Vergara of murals depicting Martin Luther King Jr.
Opening night party: The opening night party for cast and crew of the Chicago Street Theatre performance of “The World’s Worst Fairy Godmother’’ is Friday, Aug. 30, at the South Bend Chocolate Factory’s Chocolate Cafe, 57 Franklin St., following the 7 p.m. performance at the Chicago Street Theatre, 154 W. Chicago St. Cost is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors age 62 and older and $5 for students up to age 21. Special-needs dance: The Hammond Port Authority annual special-needs dance is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at the Pavilion at Wolf Lake, 2324 Calumet. The dance is free and no registration is required. All are welcome. Bring a chair, and have a picnic.
