Don’t be alarmed by the buzzing sound heard along the downtown lakefront front.
The Indy Model Boat Club has arrived and is ready to race for the coveted Clocktower Power Model Boat Race Trophy. Racing begins at 8 a.m. Thursday and will continue until about 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8.
Races can be viewed along the 3rd Street Bridge, and bleacher seating is available along the lakefront.
Back to School Blast Off: Hobart’s First Baptist Church, 1 N. Pennsylvania will host a back to school celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7.
The event will include a carnival game, face painting, balloon animals, hot dogs and drinks.
Children may register for a grand prize drawing. Free school supplies for all children.

Knight of Columbus pork chop dinner: From 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, the Knights of Columbus St. Thomas Council #1347 are hosting a pork chop dinner at St. Bridget Church Center, 107 Main St. The cost for the dinner is adults are $10 and children are $5.
Grand opening of Internet Café: Brentwood at Hobart, 1420 Saint Mary’s Circle, will celebrate the opening of My Emeritus* Internet Café at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
The café will provide Brentwood residents with the tools they need to keep in touch with friends, family, the community and the world!

Navy Band Great Lakes: The “Liberty Call” Show Band, an ensemble of the Navy Band Great Lakes, will perform at Revelli Band Shell in Festival Park at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
This event is sponsored by the Hobart Community Foundation with support from Hobart Special Events and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #54.
Touch of Elegance luncheon: St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary is hosting its 14th annual Touch of Elegance luncheon on Sept. 14 at the Avalon Manor, 3550 U.S. 30. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon.
A money raffle will be held, and gift certificates will be offered as door prizes. Tables of eight may be reserved. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at St. Mary Hospital Gift Shop.

Hog roast benefit: Exceptional Equestrians Unlimited will host their second annual Hog Roast from 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 at Veteran’s Memorial Park, 5899 E. 73rd Ave.
The event will include corn hole bean bag tournament, ladder ball, volleyball, DJ, carnival games for kids, fresh corn on the cob and a bake sale.
