AFTERNOON EVENTS

“Touch of Elegance”: Noon, Saturday, Sept. 14, Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. 30, Hobart. St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary, 14th annual luncheon event, with a money raffle, and gift certificates offered as door prizes. FAMILY EVENTS

Fall Night hikes: 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 12 and Oct. 3 and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at Taltree Arboretum & Gardens, 450 W. County Road 100N., Valparaiso. Cost for non-members is $7 for individuals 13 to 54 years old and $4 for seniors, 55 and older and children from 5 to 12 years old. Bring glow wear, glow sticks or a red LED flashlight. Planetarium show: 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, One World, One Sky; 3:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, Laser Pop Laser Light Show, Challenger Learning Center, 2300 173rd St., Hammond. Cost $5 for adult, $3 children up to age 14. Both show package, $8 adult and $5 for children 14 and older. Call 989-3250 for reservations or more information.

Group hayrides: Noon to 8 p.m. beginning Saturday, Sept. 14 through Sunday, Oct. 20, at Hidden Lake Park, 6355 Broadway, Merrillville. The cost is $50 on weekday and $75 on weekends for Ross Township residents and $75 on weekdays and $100 on weekends for non-Ross Township residents. One ride accommodates 25 people. Groups will be assigned the use of a shelter and a bonfire will be provided at the end of the approximately 30 minute ride. Call 769-2111 for more information or reservations.

FUNDRAISERS

Golf outing: 8 a.m., registration and breakfast and 9 a.m. shotgun start/tee off, Friday, Sept. 13, at Summertree Golf Club, 2323 E. 101st Ave., Crown Point. Cost is $125/person individually or $500/team. Players compete in teams of four. The deadline to sign up is Friday, Sept. 6. The event is sponsored by the Foundation for Molecular Medicine. Dawn Brancheau Foundation Dream Big Walk: 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St., Crown Point. Third annual Dawn Brancheau Foundation Dream Big Walk. Scenic two mile walk in a lake/park setting. Cost, $25 adult registration, $10 youth registration (up to age 14) includes T-shirt. A “Halloween” of a good time: 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, Hobart Elks Club, 3580 W. 61st Ave., Hobart. Cost, $40 per person and $75 per couple. Dress in your favorite costume.
