Valpo Girl Scouts receive highest award

Four Valparaiso Girl Scouts received the Girl Scout Gold Award last year. From left: Cynthia Gudino, Samantha Horn, Halley Staples and Jennifer Mallek earned Girl Scouting’s highest award with a project last summer at Hilltop Neighborhood House in Valparaiso. Volunteer work at the not-for-profit health- and child-care agency included painting, landscaping, child care at the facility’s Walt’s Place daycare, and funding and building two picnic tables and a bench. With remaining funds raised through a car wash, the scouts contributed toiletries for families at Hilltop. | Photo provided
