I recently talked to the founder of Rambo Solutions, a company that establishes and provides protection and security to individuals, organizations and distinguished groups.
Before I continue, I want to make a clarification as some of you are probably wondering about the company name Rambo. This is neither a side job for action film star Sylvester Stallone nor is it the next installment of his “Rambo” movies.
The Rambo of Rambo Solutions is Gary native and fellow 1986 Roosevelt High School alum Charles Rambo. Rambo is a lieutenant at the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in Atlanta.
He’s been with the sheriff’s office since 1989. He’s even run for Fulton County sheriff three times over the years and is currently vice president of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers.
“The morning after graduating from Roosevelt, while others were barbecuing and enjoying post-graduation bliss, I left the city to continue my journey,” Rambo said, adding that his mother moved to Milwaukee.
His original plan was a career as a mortician and he did study mortuary science at Gupton Jones Mortuary College in Decatur, Ga.,after a stint in the Air Force.
Rambo said when he went into law enforcement the plan was to become a homicide investigator or the coroner. But there wasn’t a homicide division at the time, so he became an officer in the sheriff’s office and went on to become a sergeant.
In 1991 Rambo was asked to be part of security detail for then U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn whenever he was in the area.
“This was the starting point of Rambo Solutions, but it did not fully blossom until 2000,” Rambo said.
While he is a solo act for security jobs, Rambo said he has the resources available to create a security detail team that can work on its own or in an addition to security detail and law enforcement teams.
Rambo has been called to do extra security for Academy Award winner, actor and singer Jamie Foxx, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, government officials and other dignitaries during their visits to Georgia.
In 1996 he was called to help with security for actor Arnold Schwarzenegger during the summer Olympics in Atlanta.
“I was behind him and he kept looking back at me and my name tag. He would not believe my last name was Rambo! The mayor confirmed it and Arnold said, ‘Wait until I tell Sly about you!’ ”
