There are just a few more days until Christmas, so, while you’re doing last-minute shopping — this is the final weekend to do so — and squeezing in one more party, here are a few more things happening in between the madness.
† Carolers from Elka Childcare will sing at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20 at Gary City Hall.
† Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson is ringing the Salvation Army Bell from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 20, at County Market, 2550 Arthur St., so, before you buy groceries, drop some cash in the red bucket and meet the mayor.
† At 4 p.m. Dec. 20, the Gary Human Relations Commission, the Mayor’s Organization on Disabilities, and the Continuum of Care Network of Northwest Indiana will conduct a fair-housing forum at the Gary Annex Building, 839 Broadway.
The public is invited to this information-sharing event that will include officials from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Indiana Legal Services and Gary Building Department.
For more information, call Brenda Scott Henry, fair-housing coordinator for the Gary Human Relations Commission, at 883-4151.
† The YWCA of Northwest Indiana, 150 W. 15th Ave., is hosting a Holiday Film Fest, featuring “The Polar Express,” from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 22. Admission is $5 and includes popcorn and a photo with Santa Claus.
† For adults, Teamsters Local 142 will present a Christmas celebration at 7 p.m. Dec. 22 at 2822 W. 4th Ave. Admission is $5. Call 306-0677 for more information.
† The 25th annual Spirit of Christmas Dinner will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Christmas Day at Ivy Tech’s Gary Campus, 1440 E. 35th Ave.
The event is free and includes a great meal, plus a gift afterward. For more information and to make reservations, call 887-2046 or 980-7120.
† The Harlem Globetrotters are coming to the Genesis Convention Center at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Tickets are available online at www.ticketweb.com or call (866) 468-3401.
Finally, I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and peace and blessings. As should be done each day, celebrate and love your family.
