The American Red Cross is hosting a Gary Fire Safety Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Centennial United Methodist Church, 777 Rhode Island St.
Attendees will receive important fire safety information and receive a free kit containing fire preparedness materials. To register for the fair, call (312) 729-6265.
The event is the latest of the American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana’s activities in Gary. On Oct. 4, an American Red Cross Blood Drive took place at the Gary Public Safety Facility, 555 Polk St.
Joe Leavy, prime coordinator for the blood drive and a volunteer for the American Red Cross, said he approached Police Chief Wade Ingram about bringing the drive to the facility.
“The chief wanted to do it so we set everything up,” Leavy said.
American Red Cross blood technician LaTrese Simmons of Valparaiso said she has 20 years of experience and works diligently to increase blood donor drives throughout Northwest Indiana.
