Toys 4 Tots ride is Saturday

The Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club of Indiana is hosting its fifth annual Toys 4 Tots motorcycle ride Saturday at the 529 Club, 529 E. 5th Ave.

If you have new, unwrapped toys you want to drop off and want to participate in the ride, registration runs from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the 529 Club. Cyclists will assemble in the old Bennigan’s parking lot across the street from the club. The ride begins at 11.

Buffalo Soldiers MC will ride to the Church of God in Christ, 5718 W. 9th Ave., where families will register for the chance to receive free toys later.

Community Health Net will have its 13th annual Breast Cancer Walk-athon at 10 a.m. Saturday at Marquette Park. Registration is at 9. Participation for individual walkers is $20, and a team of walkers is $150.

The Stewart House Urban Farm and Gardens project is having a meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church, 201 W. Ridge Road.

The project needs people who would like to serve on the advisory board or participate on various committees in preparation for Spring Planting 2012.

A Facebook and Twitter workshop will be led by Tiffany Tolbert of Indiana Landmarks.

Committees include planning the farm advisory board, work crew (gardening, farming and building), outreach and communications team, technology team (Facebook, Twitter, Flicker, YouTube), fundraising, food and events team, and finance and administrative team.

The Sigma Phi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority will have its fourth annual Real Men Wear Pink Fashion Show at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at Avalon Manor Banquet Center, 3550 E. U.S. 30, Hobart.

This year’s theme is “Real Men Wear Pink on an Evening in Paris.” The fashion show-fundraiser honors a select group of men who have made significant contributions in the fight against breast cancer.

Tickets are $35 each; souvenir calendar ads are $100 (large), $50 (medium), $25 (small) or $5 (birthday, name only). Proceeds will benefit Sigma Phi Omega’s scholarships and special programs. For more information or to buy tickets or ads, call 308-4738 or contact any member of Sigma Phi Omega.
