Fisk Jubilee Singers

The Friends of Emerson presents the legendary Fisk Jubilee Singers and their music director Paul Kwami of Fisk University at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at First AME Church, 2045 Massachusetts St. The Wirt-Emerson Visual and Performing Arts Choir will join the Fisk Jubilee Singers in what promises to be an extraordinary concert event.

The Fisk Jubilee Singers are vocal artists and students at Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., who are nationally and internationally known.

Fisk University treasurer and music professor George L. White created the nine-member choral ensemble of students to earn money for the university, which dealt with financial hardship five years after opening in 1866. In 1999 the Fisk Jubilee Singers were featured in the PBS television documentary “Jubilee Singers: Sacrifice and Glory.”

Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students with a student ID. Tickets are available at Wirt-Emerson Visual and Performing Arts Academy, 210 N. Grand Blvd., and at the Lake Street Gallery, 613 S. Lake St.
