Triumphant Transitions, a not-for-profit group founded by Gary native and professional makeup artist LaTrice Edwards, has reached out to Northwest Indiana communities for nearly seven years.
In that time, hundreds of men, women and youth working to turn their lives around received makeovers — not just cosmetic, but with spiritual and educational guidance that led to empowerment and employment, thanks to complimentary salon, spa and grooming services and workshops.
Edwards’ group partners with area businesses and professionals to help clients take the steps to independent living. This holiday season, Edwards sent an email asking the community to help Triumphant Transitions spread the joy of giving by helping purchase gifts for children whose parents are incarcerated.
Triumphant Transitions has “adopted” children with incarcerated parents, as well as young clients of New Generation Youth and Family Services in Gary.
Edwards said tax-deductible donations will allow Triumphant Transitions to buy Christmas gifts and winter clothes for these young people. Visit the group’s website, www.triumphanttransitions.org, and donate online or send a check or money order to Triumphant Transitions Inc., P.O. Box 2339, Gary, IN 46409.
The group also is collecting nonperishable food items for Sojourner Truth House, which benefits clients and families in Gary and Northwest Indiana. You can drop off the items, except corn, at the following locations: Big Daddy’s BBQ, 4213 Cleveland St.; Billco’s Barbershop, 2448 Broadway; South Shore Centre for the Arts, 665 S. Lake St.; and Stadium Buffet, 411 E. 5th Ave.
All donations for both causes will be accepted through Tuesday, Dec. 20.
The Urban League of Northwest Indiana and Urban League committee chairman Bishop Norman J. Hairston II will present “Ministers in Concert” at 7 p.m. Dec. 2, at the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1747 Fillmore St.
“Ministers in Concert” is a free, all-denominations event featuring praise, worship and song from local soloists and church choirs.
A reminder that the West Side Theatre Guild’s “Lyrics: A Gospel Experience” has two shows, at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3, at the West Side Leadership Academy auditorium, 900 Gerry St.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Advance tickets are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Dec. 2 at the West Side Theatre box office. The
Dec. 3 show will be taped for a
future airing on the local Comcast cable channel.
