VALPARAISO — A gun was fired during a domestic disturbance early Wednesday.
At about 12:40 a.m., an 8-year-old boy and several adults were in the apartment in the 1100 block of Oak Street, when Kimberly Garnett, 40, allegedly shot two rounds out a window to scare her live-in boyfriend, Donald Wilkes, and his friends into leaving, police said.
Wilkes, 40, and Garnett then reportedly fought, with Wilkes grabbing the handgun and allegedly battering her with it. He fled before police arrived and was found at a nearby bar.
Garnett refused medical treatment. She was arrested for intimidation with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. Wilkes also is being held at the Porter County Jail.
Child Protective Services took custody of the child.
