An alleged drunken driver faces multiple charges after refusing to stop for an officer, while going 50 miles per hour over the speed limit.
A stationary radar detector on U.S. 30, near County Road 500E, clocked Anthony Pete, 24, of Valparaiso, at 110 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone, according to the police report. A police officer attempted to stop Pete’s white 2011 Dodge pickup, but he continued east until he entered Wanatah, drove through a red light and pulled into a business parking lot about half a mile east of Indiana 421. The officer then ordered Pete out of the truck at gunpoint.
Pete complied with this but refused to take field sobriety tests. His blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit, police said.
The drunken driving charge is a felony, since Pete was convicted of the same charge in October 2009, police said.
He also is charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a felony; reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor charges.
