PORTER COUNTY
Fraud interfering with tax return
An unknown person used a 41-year-old Center Township man’s Social Security number to file an electronic tax return. The man learned of the possible fraud Wednesday when he contacted the Internal Revenue Service to find out the status of his tax return. The Federal Trade Commission is investigating, according to the police report.
Suspect keeps contacting victim
Police said they requested a warrant on Wednesday to arrest John Wilburn, 28, for misdemeanor invasion of privacy after he repeatedly sent text messages to a 29-year-old Center Township woman. Wilburn was arrested and released two weeks ago on charges of domestic battery and strangulation; the woman who was his alleged victim obtained a no-contact order. She said Wilburn has been calling her and sending messages asking for money, to see their children, and for her to drop the protective order.
