MALDEN — A man claiming to be a police officer reportedly waved a handgun in the air during a 3:15 a.m. Sunday disturbance in the parking lot of Ozzie’s Oasis.
No shots were fired and no one was hurt in the incident.
Witnesses later told police the unknown man left the bar, at 394 S. Indiana 49, in a black Pontiac Grand Prix, turning off his headlights and heading east on County Road 400S.
According to the police report, a known woman arrived at the bar in the Grand Prix to get keys from her estranged boyfriend for a residence they shared. The boyfriend came outside to see who was with the woman, there was a confrontation, and the unknown driver of the Grand Prix yelled, “I’m a county cop!” then waved a small silver handgun. He also allegedly said “anybody who wanted to fight deserved to be shot,” a witness told police. The gunman and the woman then left.
The boyfriend also had left by the time officers arrived, and they weren’t able to reach him or the girlfriend immediately.
