Man admits he shook infant
A Valparaiso man accused of shaking an infant and causing bleeding on the brain has pleaded guilty in Porter County Superior Court to Class B felony battery, which could get him 11 years in prison at his March 28 sentencing. The plea agreement doesn’t mention the amount of probation after prison for Marlin White.
White admitted that in November 2009 he shook the child, who was home from the hospital for four weeks after treatment for being premature and other problems.
Defense attorney Larry Rogers said that a plea was best for White given the videotaped statement White gave police because “a jury that would see that confession would believe it.”
Man found with coke, pot, pills
Police found 18 grams of powdered cocaine, 3 grams of rock cocaine, 110 grams of individually bagged marijuana and 37 Amoxicillin pills during a Feb. 15 traffic stop.
Arthur G. Boyd, 44, of Michigan City has been charged by the Porter County Prosecutor’s Office with Class B felony dealing in cocaine, which carries a prison sentence of six to 20 years.
Boyd was also charged with three Class D felonies: dealing in marijuana, identity deception (for giving a false name to avoid several active warrants) and possession of a legend drug (for the antibiotic Amoxicillin).
He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement for running when police tried to pat him down on U.S. 12 near Burns Harbor.
