Portage police seek appplicants

PORTAGE — Applications for those interested in becoming a Portage police officer will available at the Police Department beginning Tuesday, May 29.

Department spokesman Sgt. Keith Hughes said applicants must be U.S. citizens between the ages of 21 and 36 with a valid driver’s license, at least a high school diploma and no felony or domestic battery convictions.

Those who apply must pass a battery of tests, including physical agility, voice stress and written.

The 2012 salary for a probationary officer is $33,182, and after one year, the salary increases to $42,305.

Packets can be picked up from 8 a.m. daily through 4 p.m. Sunday, June 3 at the Police Department, 2693 Irving St. The completed information must be returned by 4 p.m. June 24.
