Chesterton man dies from earlier burns

CHICAGO — A Chesterton man died Thursday in part from burns suffered at his home.
Jose Torres, 63, of the 600 block of South 20th Street in Chesterton, was burned May 14 at his home and pronounced dead at 11:04 p.m. Thursday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy Friday determined Torres died of a lung disorder and thermal burns and the death was ruled an accident.
Authorities said Torres caught fire while smoking while using an oxygen tank.
