BURNS HARBOR — An out-of-state driver’s blood-alcohol level was more than five times the legal limit when he ran off U.S. 20 shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday.

Police said Harold Frost, 44, of Stickney, Ill., went off the road and through the grass just east of the entrance to the Pilot Travel Center, at 243 Melton Road.

Frost reportedly smelled strongly of alcohol but refused a breath test. When he was taken to the hospital to be cleared to be jailed on a drunken driving charge, a blood draw showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.425 percent, police said.
