The Indiana Patriot Guard, a veterans group, will escort home the body of Spc. Segio Eduardo Perez, a Crown Point soldier who died last week in Afghanistan.

Perez, the son of Veronica Orozco of Crown Point and Sergio Perez of East Chicago, is survived by his parents and sisters, Candice Perez, Andrea Jimenez and Karyme Jimenez.

He was killed in action after being hit by enemy rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire while in a vehicle with Spc. Nicholas Taylor, of Berne, who was also killed.

The Patriot Guard will be present at Perez’s funeral at 8 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Consolation, 8303 Taft St., Merrillville.

His body will arrive at Gary/Chicago International Airport at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. After services, he will be escorted to the Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, in Crown Point.

The Patriot Guard will also attend Perez’s visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
