Woman pleads guilty in gang-related attack

A Portage woman pleaded guilty to attacking a man in a gang-related incident.

Da’Kia Wallace, now 18, was 17 pleaded guilty Monday to Class D felony criminal gang activity in an incident happened Oct. 14, 2011, on Canden Avenue, in Portage.

The man, whom Wallace and three others attacked, said he was walking through his apartment complex to his daughter’s bus stop when the group began yelling and asking what gang he belonged to.

When he said he didn’t, a man identified in court files as Christopher Driver, 26, claimed to be a gang enforcer, and the group of four subsequently beat the man.

If Porter County Superior Court Judge William Alexa accepts Wallace’s plea, she will be sentenced to 18 months — 30 days in Porter County Jail, another 30 days of community service and the rest on probation. Misdemeanor battery and resisting law enforcement charges would be dropped.

Driver has a Sept. 17 court date for misdemeanor battery and resisting law enforcement charges, while Davon Cundiff, 24, is set for sentencing Aug. 14 for Class D felony criminal gang activity.

The third male is a juvenile and not listed in public records.
