Shed, vehicle break-ins reported

A number of burglaries have been reported in Porter Township, in neighborhoods east of Lakes of the Four Seasons.

A detached garage was broken into overnight Sunday in the 200 block of Cobble Lane. The door was pried open and nearly $3,000 worth of power and hand tools were stolen. A shed at another address in the same block also was broken into, but nothing appeared missing.

Items also were stolen from three backyard sheds in the 200 block of Fieldstone Drive, with some of the property found Monday morning on the road in front of the owners’ houses. Tire tracks from a small vehicle, probably an ATV, ran to and from one of the sheds, police said. The lock on a fourth shed also was damaged.

At about 4 a.m. Monday, a vehicle parked in the 600 block of Windy Oak Circle was found damaged, and electronics and a purse were stolen from inside.

Pens worth $445
to $840 stolen

Three valuable pens were reported missing on Monday, although the owner told police he believes they were stolen July 28 from a home in the 200 block of Tall Timbers Court during a move. The pens are all Montblanc brand. A platinum and white gold fountain pen, worth $840, and a yellow gold roller ball pen, worth $445, were taken along with their a leather pouch; and a desktop pen holder with its ballpoint pen, worth $600, also was missing, according to the police report.

SOUTH HAVEN

Homemade golf cart found in field

A homemade golf cart was found at about 6:45 p.m. Monday in a bean field behind a home in the 600 block of Oxford Road. It is believed the cart was stolen and abandoned within the past week, according to the police report. The found golf cart, which has a Tecumseh engine, was spray-painted in several colors.

Repeat drunken drivers arrested

Devin Risher, 23, of Hammond, was arrested for felony drunken driving with a prior conviction and misdemeanor driving with a suspended license, at about 12:55 a.m. Tuesday, in the 600 block of East U.S. 6. Police had been looking for Risher’s vehicle because he reportedly had been involved in a physical disturbance in the 500 block of Carriage Lane Road, west of Valparaiso. No charges were filed regarding the disturbance.

Jason Hanson, 28, of Valparaiso, was arrested for felony drunken driving with a prior conviction, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, during a traffic stop at about 2:25 a.m. Monday at Evans Avenue and Silhavy Road in Valparaiso.
