Burglar turns up the heat to high

Between Saturday and Monday, a house in the 400 block of East County Road 100N was burglarized. The victim told police he believed a door was left unlocked. The items reported taken included a Bose radio, television, grill and fishing gear. The culprit turned the furnace to high before leaving the Washington Township home, police said.

Darkened taillights led to drug arrest

Eric Ensweiler, 19, of Crown Point, was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia during a 11:50 p.m. Tuesday traffic stop, at Indiana 2 and Hayes Leonard Road. Ensweiler had three Xanax that were not prescribed to him, police said. He also reportedly admitted applying a black tint to his vehicle’s taillights. The dim taillights were what led to the stop, police said.
