Woman accused of welfare fraud

A Portage woman is accused of getting $21,608 in welfare benefits for herself and her children after her husband moved back into their home and had gainful employment.

Juliet Kamboures, 42, faces up to eight years in prison for Class C felony Welfare fraud and has her trial set for the week of March 3.

According to court records, she lied about the living situation during interviews to receive food stamps and Medicaid benefits between January 2008 and November 2011.

The husband told investigators that although they’d been separated a few times, he considered their Portage house his home since they bought it, and he didn’t object to the food stamps because that left more of his money.
