Neighbor is suspect in home burglary
Some of the items stolen from a mobile home were found in plain view outside a neighbor’s residence, police said.
A large amount of property — including the stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, a television and multiple bottle of prescription medication — was taken in the burglary between Sunday and Tuesday in the 3500 block of Evans Avenue.
The victims found two of their stolen decorative items — a floral lamp and an angel figurine — on top of a refrigerator outside a neighboring mobile home, said police, who are investigating.
Man stopped for bright headlights
Joshua Skalka, 36, of Westville, was arrested at about 1 a.m. Wednesday for felony drunken driving, with a prior conviction, during a traffic stop in the 200 block of East U.S. 6. He was ticketed for failing to dim his headlights.
Six thefts from vehicles reported
An unusually high number of thefts from vehicles was reported early this week.
Two thefts were reported Monday morning and happened overnight in the 1900 block of Chicago Street, where a purse was stolen, and the 400 block of Sturdy Road, where a GPS running watch and a duffel bag were taken. A third victim called police when, between 5:45 and 8:30 p.m. Monday, a window was smashed out of a vehicle parked at Inman’s Recreation Center, 3201 Evans Ave, and a purse was stolen.
Overnight Monday, prescription medications, cigarettes and quarters were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2800 block of Virginia Park Drive. More thefts happened Monday or Tuesday in the 2900 block of Gleneagles Boulevard, where a small amount of cash was reported stolen from two vehicles, according to police reports.
